Karachi: In a move to prioritize green spaces across the city, Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab announced the establishment of the “Abdul Salam Soomro Memorial Park” in Gulshan-e-Hadeed, District Malir. According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), the development of this public park marks an important step toward providing citizens with a healthy and natural environment.
Highlighting the significance of green spaces, Mayor Wahab emphasized the benefits of spending time in natural surroundings for mental and physical well-being. The park, developed under the supervision of KMC, is expected to serve as a recreational facility for local residents, offering a space for walking, recreation, and enjoying nature. It aims to provide opportunities for children, senior citizens, and families to engage in recreational activities within their neighborhood.
The mayor’s initiative reflects an understanding that urban development should include environmental improvements and the provision of public recreational facilities, alongside infrastructural projects. Experts suggest that increasing trees and green spaces in urban areas can reduce environmental pollution, lower temperatures, and improve air quality, thereby promoting a healthier lifestyle.
The establishment of the park in Gulshan-e-Hadeed is seen as a significant step in providing essential civic and recreational facilities, particularly in the city’s suburban areas. Ensuring regular maintenance, plantation, and cleanliness of the park will be crucial for residents to continue benefiting from these facilities.
