Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) organized a Pre-Monsoon Coordination Conference at the National Emergencies Operation Center in Islamabad, underscoring the importance of national preparedness ahead of the monsoon season expected from June to September 2026. The event was held under the guidance of national and military leadership to strengthen coordination mechanisms in response to the Disaster Early Warning issued by NEOC.

According to Press Information Department, the conference aimed to fortify preparedness and response measures against potential monsoon-related risks, such as floods, Glacial Lake Outburst Floods, and other extreme weather events. Attendees included representatives from Provincial Disaster Management Authorities, Pakistan Meteorological Department, federal ministries, armed forces, and humanitarian partners. The briefing highlighted that the monsoon is expected to bring strong regional contrasts, with significant rainfall in northern Pakistan and adjoining areas, while southern regions may face suppressed rainfall and heat stress.

Chairman NDMA, Lt Gen Inam Haider Malik, emphasized the need for timely dissemination of early warnings and public advisories to keep communities informed and prepared. He called for robust coordination among stakeholders and the engagement of local NGOs and community volunteers to enhance grassroots-level preparedness. The conference reviewed contingency planning, evacuation strategies, and safety measures for tourists in northern areas, along with strategies for protecting critical infrastructure and ensuring smooth inter-agency communication.

NDMA reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining coordination with stakeholders to ensure effective preparedness and response measures for community protection during the monsoon season across Pakistan.
