Islamabad: The national power system maintained stability and efficiency throughout February 2026, successfully accommodating an unexpectedly high electricity demand, according to a statement by the Power Division’s spokesperson.

According to Press Information Department, both electricity generation and consumption surpassed projected levels, driven by increased system utilization. Factors such as reduced availability of hydel power, typical for this season, and temporary outages of certain generation units influenced the energy mix. Despite these challenges, the system adhered to operational protocols, including merit order dispatch and optimal resource use. Notably, there was no reliance on furnace oil-based generation, contributing to cost efficiency.

The Fuel Cost Adjustment for the period accounted for variations in the fuel mix used for electricity generation, as per standard regulatory procedures. Higher electricity consumption led to improved system capacity utilization, potentially moderating tariffs over time. Overall, the power system was reliable and responsive, ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply despite operational constraints.
