ISLAMABAD: In alignment with the austerity measures directed by the Government of Pakistan, the National Assembly Secretariat has deposited PKR 472.1 million into the National Treasury. This move is part of broader cost-saving efforts initiated by Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, aiming to reduce operational costs and bolster financial discipline across parliamentary operations.

According to National Assembly of Pakistan, the Secretariat has conducted a detailed review of its budget and expenditures for the current fiscal year. The outcome was a substantial reduction, including a PKR 21 million cut in the salaries of Members of the National Assembly, funds that have been redirected to the Prime Minister’s Austerity Fund 2026. This is part of a strategic plan to achieve savings of up to PKR 2 billion by optimizing expenditures and improving resource management.

In a bid to further these efforts, the Secretariat has withdrawn numerous official vehicles from routine use, conserving fuel and decreasing operational costs. Energy efficiency measures have also been implemented, such as utilizing the Green Parliament Solar System to meet electricity needs and reduce reliance on grid power. Furthermore, the Secretariat has limited the number of employees physically present to 200, with most staff working on a rotational basis to maintain efficiency while cutting overhead costs.

Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has called for an acceleration of these cost-cutting measures, emphasizing the Parliament’s dedication to transparent governance and responsible management of public funds. Continued contributions to the National Treasury are anticipated as these initiatives progress and expand, showcasing a commitment to prudent fiscal management.
