KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah paid tribute to Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, emphasizing his enduring influence on Pakistan’s foreign policy and people-centric politics. Shah highlighted Bhutto’s vision of strategic autonomy and Muslim unity as pivotal for the nation’s direction.

According to Chief Minister Sindh, Shah addressed a conference titled “Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto: Global Vision and Contemporary Conflicts,” organized by the Arts Council of Pakistan. He underscored Bhutto’s role in establishing an independent foreign policy, choosing principles over power, and recognizing the strategic importance of China as early as 1966. Shah credited Bhutto’s foresight for the strength of Pak-China relations today, mentioning the concept of the “Global South” introduced by Bhutto to unite developing nations.

Shah also recalled Bhutto’s historic role in uniting the Muslim world during the 1974 Islamic Summit and his strong advocacy for the Palestinian cause. He noted Bhutto’s contributions to Pakistan’s defense and sovereignty, including laying the foundation for the nuclear program and addressing the Kashmir issue at the United Nations.

Furthermore, Shah praised Bhutto’s political philosophy, which empowered ordinary citizens and transformed Pakistan’s political landscape by breaking traditional class barriers. He acknowledged the continued relevance of Bhutto’s vision in Pakistan’s current foreign policy successes.

The chief minister announced that Bhutto’s 47th death anniversary would be observed with respect across Sindh, with district-level commemorations. He expressed gratitude to the Arts Council for organizing the event, highlighting Bhutto’s sacrifices as a cornerstone of Pakistan’s strength and survival.
