Islamabad: The National Assembly passed a resolution expressing grief over the loss of infants in a fire at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS). The resolution, moved by Parliamentary Secretary for Information and Broadcasting Barrister Danyal Chaudhry, condemned the incident and highlighted negligence as a contributing factor.

According to Radio Pakistan, the resolution urged the government to take action against those responsible for safety lapses. It also called for strict implementation of fire safety in hospitals, especially neonatal and pediatric units, to prevent future incidents. Condolences were extended to the families of the victims.

Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar announced that an interim report on the incident would be presented by evening. He stated that a committee, led by former Interior Secretary Shahid Khan, would release a detailed report within seven days. Another committee will propose improvements for PIMS.

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif stressed accountability for the tragedy. The Law Minister later moved a motion for the Speaker to form a special committee to investigate the incident and recommend preventive measures. The House session has been prorogued.
