National Assembly Committee to Review Amendments to Parliamentary Rules

Islamabad: Today, the Standing Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges decided to form a Sub-Committee to closely examine proposed amendments to the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007. These amendments, suggested by Dr. Nafisa Shah, MNA, aim to enhance the parliamentary process by inserting new Rules 295 and 296.

According to National Assembly of Pakistan, the meeting, chaired by Mr. Muhammad Afzal, MNA, featured a comprehensive briefing by Mr. Azam Nazeer Tarar, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, on the privileges of Parliament members as stipulated under the Constitution and existing parliamentary rules. Dr. Nafisa Shah provided a detailed presentation on the need for new rules to better handle public petitions, drawing comparisons with parliamentary practices in other nations.

After thorough discussions, the committee acknowledged the merits of the proposed amendments and agreed to further scrutiny through a Sub-Committee led by Rana Muhammad Qasim Noon, MNA. This Sub-Committee is tasked with delivering a detailed report within thirty days, which will then be reviewed for final consideration by the main committee. The session was well-attended by members across various political spectrums, reflecting the importance of the issues under review.
