NA Standing Committee on Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety Division meets 

Islamabad, July 06, 2022 (PPI-OT):Action may be taken against the culprits who took advantage from BISP, fraudulently. Moreover, the details of deputations working in Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety (PA and SS) and its attached departments be furnished to the Standing Committee on Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety. These directions have been passed by the Standing Committee on Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety in its meeting held on 6th July 2022.

The meeting was held in Parliament House under the Chairpersonship of its Chairperson honourable Ms. Saira Bano, MNA. The Standing Committee said that Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) is an excellent initiative of the Government which is for the welfare of the poor and needy people. So, it cannot be tolerated if a non-deserving person takes benefit of BISP, fraudulently.

The Standing Committee was apprised that most of the people in BISP are serving on deputation basis. But there is no criteria of appointment on deputation basis. The Standing Committee directed that bio data of all deputations of Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety and its attached departments be furnished to the Standing Committee.

The Standing Committee was briefed that the details of all of the civil servants, who took monies from BISP fraudulently, have been sent to Establishment Division to take disciplinary action against them and their cases have also been forwarded to Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for necessary legal proceedings against the culprits.

The Standing Committee was informed that it is difficult for women beneficiaries of BISP to open their accounts in the banks. If a facility to open bank accounts is provided to them, it will be useful for them. The representatives of BISP informed the Committee that they were already in touch with State Bank of Pakistan and they wanted to introduce an easy account like Raast Account through which the lady beneficiaries of BISP can easily take their support money.

The Standing Committee directed that the State Bank of Pakistan should direct all banks to provide the facility to the women beneficiaries of BISP and a report may be submitted to the Committee in thirty days.

The meeting of the Standing Committee on Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety Division was presided over by its Chairperson Ms. Saira Bano and attended by Members National Assembly; Ch. Muhammad Hamid Hameed, Ch. Muhammad Shahbaz Babar, Syed Abrar Ali Shah, Mr. Zulfiqar Ali Behan, Syed Mehmood Shah, Mr. Salahuddin, Ms. Nuzhat Pathan and Mrs. Farukh Khan.

The meeting was also attended by Additional Secretary In-charge, Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety Division, Secretary, BISP, Director General, BISP and senior civil officer attended the meeting.
