KWSC Unveils New Water Supply System for Karachi’s Malir District

Karachi: In a significant development for water infrastructure in the city, the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) inaugurated the Pipri to Gulshan-e-Hadeed 5 MGD Water Supply Pumping Station in District Malir. This project, aimed at improving the water supply to Gulshan-e-Hadeed, Steel Town, and nearby areas, was officially opened by Barrister Murtaza Wahab, who serves as both Chairman of KWSC and Mayor of Karachi.

According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the inauguration ceremony attracted notable figures including Deputy Mayor Karachi Salman Abdullah Murad, Water and Sewerage Corporation Chief Executive Ahmed Ali Siddiqui, and Chief Operating Officer Asadullah Khan, among others. The project is expected to provide a reliable water supply to over 500,000 residents, addressing long-standing water scarcity issues that arose following the suspension of water services by the Steel Mills administration.

Mayor Wahab emphasized the commitment of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) to fulfilling its promises to the public, highlighting that the initiative was completed within two months at a cost of approximately Rs500 million. He assured residents that more infrastructure and development projects are in the pipeline, in line with PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s vision.

Additionally, the Mayor noted improvements in local transportation infrastructure, specifically mentioning the benefits brought by the construction of Shahrah-e-Bhutto. Further enhancements, including work on roads, parks, and drainage systems, are also underway, with plans for the N-5 National Highway’s reconstruction set to commence soon.

Efforts to eliminate leakages in existing pipelines and establish new operational projects before the end of June were also discussed. Mayor Wahab called for resident cooperation with the billing system to ensure continued investment in local infrastructure, signaling a future where water supply is stable and sustainable for Karachi’s Malir District.
