Islamabad: The Ministry of Interior, under the direction of Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, has announced the introduction of enhanced security measures for children’s Form B, marking a first in the country’s history. These measures, set to be implemented starting January 15, will include mandatory fingerprints and photographs for children over the age of ten. The initiative aims to prevent identity theft, the misuse of identity information, and crimes such as the creation of fake identity cards, illegal passports, and human trafficking.
According to Press Information Department, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), in collaboration with the Passport Department, will spearhead the phased rollout of the new Form B. In the initial phase, children aged between 10 and 18 will be required to visit NADRA centers with a parent or legal guardian, who must present their computerized national identity card alongside the child’s computerized birth certificate. The new B form, featuring the child’s photograph and fingerprints, will be necessary for passport applications, replacing the old version that lacked these security features. The Directorate General of Immigration and Passports will verify the details through the NADRA database during passport processing.
Further developments are anticipated, including the provision of iris scans, photographs, and fingerprint facilities at the Union Council level. Integration of NADRA’s identification system with provincial Civil Registration Management Systems and enhancements to NADRA’s Pak ID mobile app are also planned to ensure comprehensive digital identification services for Pakistani citizens.
