Karachi: Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab announced that all ongoing development projects across the city are to be completed by June 15. The mayor’s directive came during a late-night visit to various areas of the city, where he reviewed the progress of these projects and instructed officials to expedite work while maintaining quality standards. Municipal Commissioner KMC Abrar Jaffer, senior officials from the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, and a group of journalists accompanied him during the inspection.
According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the mayor’s visit commenced in Saddar Town, where he emphasized the importance of completing development work on time to enhance facilities for citizens. During his review of the rehabilitation work on Meesam Lee Street in the Old City area, he highlighted the need for transparency and public accountability in the development efforts. Despite the road being under the town’s jurisdiction, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation is overseeing the project to ensure public convenience. The mayor reiterated that infrastructure improvements would not be compromised.
The mayor also visited several key roads, including SM Taufiq Road, Sehba Akhtar Road, and Jahangir Road, to assess the ongoing work. He stressed the importance of adhering to quality standards and noted that consultants have been appointed to enhance the work’s quality. He is personally monitoring all projects. The rehabilitation of Sehba Akhtar Road, a project costing approximately Rs200 million, was deemed essential due to its daily use by a large number of citizens.
In addition to the central areas, Mayor Wahab inspected development work in District East, North Nazimabad Block J, Shadman Town, North Karachi Sector 5-L, and various regions of Korangi Town, focusing on roads, parks, and other projects. During a media briefing at the Azeempura Flyover, he declared the current year a year of completion for development projects, with approximately Rs68 billion allocated for these initiatives by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation.
The mayor assured the public that the Azeempura Flyover would be completed in less than 100 days and reported rapid progress on Shahrah-e-Bhutto’s development. He mentioned ongoing road improvement projects from Qayyumabad to Kathore, and that key projects would soon be accessible to the public. An additional project is underway to connect Shahrah-e-Bhutto with the port.
Regarding water supply, the mayor mentioned that the Water Board has submitted a summary to the Chief Minister of Sindh for an increase in water quota from Hub Dam, with a new canal from the dam already operational. Mayor Wahab affirmed that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation is committed to improving the city’s infrastructure and facilities for its citizens, with expectations of positive changes in the near future.
