Karachi: Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab has directed the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and all relevant local government institutions to remain on high alert in anticipation of heavy rainfall forecasted by the Pakistan Meteorological Department. The rain is expected to begin today and continue until September 16, prompting the mayor to ensure that all possible facilities are made available to the citizens during this period.

According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Mayor Wahab emphasized that personnel from the Municipal Services Department, Engineering Department, and other relevant sectors will be actively present in the field. Necessary arrangements are being put in place to address any potential emergency situations arising from the rainfall. Pumps have been strategically deployed at known choke points and nullahs across the city to facilitate the drainage of rainwater, and staff equipped with essential machinery and equipment are stationed at critical locations such as Qalandaria, Zahri House, and Hub River Road.

Continuous monitoring of water drainage from roads and low-lying areas will be conducted to minimize inconvenience to citizens. The KMC will work in coordination with the Water Corporation and Solid Waste Management Department to ensure effective management of municipal services. Mayor Wahab assured that all available resources will be utilized to provide relief, drawing on lessons learned from previous experiences to enhance the city’s drainage and service response.

Additionally, a monitoring cell will be established to address citizens’ complaints promptly. This cell will oversee the situation throughout the rainfall, ensuring immediate action is taken in response to any issues reported by the public. Mayor Wahab reiterated that negligence will not be tolerated and urged all officers and staff to perform their duties with vigilance and dedication during the rainy period.
