KARACHI: Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab continued his inspection of the city’s storm water drain cleaning operations for the third consecutive day, emphasizing the importance of timely monsoon preparations. During his visit, he examined the City Drain in the Railway Colony near I.I. Chundrigar Road, accompanied by Municipal Commissioner KMC Abrar Jaffar and other key officials.

According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the mayor highlighted the significance of the drain’s location near downtown and directed that cleaning efforts be completed within the set timeframe to ensure proper rainwater flow and prevent urban flooding. The drain cleaning campaign is set to continue until September 15, with additional support provided to Town Municipal Corporations as needed.

Mayor Wahab instructed that all removed silt, garbage, and debris be promptly disposed of to avoid future blockages. He also emphasized daily monitoring of the operations and the deployment of extra resources when necessary. The KMC’s strategy for the monsoon season includes cleaning both major and minor drains and improving the drainage system, with a focus on maintaining the city’s functionality during heavy rains.

The mayor reassured that he is overseeing the operations personally, with elected representatives also monitoring local efforts to ensure effective implementation. The initiative aims to enhance municipal services and keep Karachi’s drainage infrastructure operational throughout the monsoon season.
