Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, the Mayor of Karachi, has inaugurated the renovated football stadium in Korangi’s Nasir Colony, marking a significant step towards enhancing sports facilities in the city.
According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, The inauguration was a momentous occasion where Mayor Wahab emphasized the commitment of the People’s Party, led by Chairman Bilawal Bhutto, to fulfill its promises and focus on the national interest. He highlighted that the party’s work in the city demonstrated that the issue was not about powers but intentions, and their efforts to establish sports fields and stadiums across Karachi were a testament to this commitment.
The event saw the presence of various dignitaries, including Mayor Karachi Salman Abdullah Murad, Vice Chairman of Korangi Town, local leaders of the PPP, and other notable personalities. Acknowledging the importance of sports for the youth, Mayor Wahab announced the completion of the Korangi Football Stadium’s renovation and repair as a priority project of the People’s Party leadership. He expressed happiness at seeing the Nasir Colony sports ground revitalized and accepted the local children’s demand for a pitch, also promising the installation of lights at the stadium as per party friends’ wishes.
Mayor Wahab condemned the politicization of sports grounds, stating that other political parties had used these spaces for their events, which was inappropriate. He stressed the need to keep playgrounds apolitical for the benefit of children and the community.
Additionally, Mayor Wahab announced the upcoming establishment of Pakistan’s first metropolitan university, which will offer various programs, including IT and business, to aid the youth in building their futures. He approved the Korangi University campus and promised to design the program based on community input.
Addressing infrastructure development, the Mayor noted that the construction of the Korangi Causeway bridge had begun, aiming to alleviate traffic problems for industrialists, laborers, and citizens. He anticipated that the bridge’s completion would address the Malir river’s overflowing issues and improve traffic flow.
In his speech, Mayor Wahab also extended Christmas wishes to the Christian community in Korangi and assured them of better municipal facilities. The event highlighted the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s efforts to develop sports infrastructure and improve overall municipal services in the city.
