Kolkata, In a vehement critique, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of co-opting Indian intelligence agencies to sway the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in their favor. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader argued that this alignment represents a direct threat to the integrity of the electoral process.
According to Kashmir Media Service, during a rally in Cooch Behar, West Bengal, Banerjee highlighted the involvement of various Indian probe and paramilitary agencies, including the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Income Tax Department, Border Security Force (BSF), and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), alleging that they operate under the influence of the BJP to advantage the party ahead of critical national polls.
In her appeal for electoral fairness, Banerjee called on the Election Commission to ensure an equitable environment for all political parties, emphasizing the need to counteract the alleged bias of central agencies. She also addressed instances of BSF misconduct and encouraged affected locals to lodge formal complaints with the police, underscoring her commitment to resisting what she perceives as the central agencies’ intimidation tactics.
This confrontation underscores the escalating tension between the TMC and the BJP in the lead-up to the elections and raises significant questions about the neutrality of India’s intelligence and security apparatus during critical democratic exercises.
