Lahore Interior Minister Acts to Reform Passport Office Amid Corruption Complaints

Lahore, In response to rampant corruption complaints at the Passport Office in Garden Town, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi took decisive action today, replacing the Director and Assistant Director and initiating legal proceedings against them. This move came after citizens reported widespread bribery and manipulation by a so-called agent mafia, significantly hindering passport processing.

According to Press Information Department, during his visit, Minister Naqvi encountered firsthand the frustrations and obstacles faced by citizens, including malfunctioning equipment and extortionate demands by office staff and external agents. Disturbed by these reports and the evidence presented by the citizens, which included mandatory payments to even enter the office, Naqvi immediately ordered changes in leadership and promised thorough investigations into the allegations.

The disgruntled citizens shared their grievances with Minister Naqvi, illustrating a systemic issue of corruption that extended from low-level functionaries to high-ranking officials within the Passport Office. They expressed relief and support for Naqvi’s prompt actions, hopeful that these reforms would lead to improved service delivery and transparency.

Minister Naqvi affirmed his commitment to eradicating corruption in public offices, emphasizing the government’s duty to ensure efficient and honest services. He assured the public that the overhaul at the Passport Office in Garden Town was just the beginning of broader reforms aimed at enhancing the integrity and functionality of similar institutions across the country.
