KARACHI: In the first quarter-final of the Metropolitan Football Cup 2024, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) team secured a victory over Maripur Town with a 5-4 win in penalties at the KMC Football Stadium. The match, organized by the Department of Culture and Sports of the Municipality of Karachi, concluded with no goals during regular time, leading to a penalty shootout. The KMC team successfully advanced to the semi-finals.

According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the other three quarter-finals took place on Monday. The match between Shah Faisal Town and Baldia Town was held at the MC Football Stadium, while Lyari Town faced Gulshan Town at Kukri Football Ground Lyari. Gadap Town played against Millertown at All Brothers Football Stadium. These matches attracted large crowds, with many citizens attending to enjoy the games. The tournament promises significant prizes, with the winning team receiving a trophy and Rs 10 lakh, the second-place team Rs 5 lakh, and the third-place team Rs 2.5 lakh.

The tournament is being held across football grounds in seven districts, with the semi-final and final matches scheduled to take place under floodlights. The event is supervised by referees and technical staff approved by FIFA, ensuring the tournament meets international standards.
