Khalistan supporter, Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala shot dead in Indian Punjab

Amritsar, May 29, 2022 (PPI-OT): Popular Punjabi singer and rapper Sidhu Moose Wala, who was a staunch supporter of Khalistan movement and activist of recent farmers’ movement, was shot dead on Sunday. Moose Wala had joined the Congress before the Punjab elections had contested the Assembly polls on a Congress ticket from Mansa.

Hailing from Moosa, a village in Mansa district, Moose Wala was also known for his pro-Khalistani and Punjabi songs, which openly glorified Sikh fighters. His song ‘Jatti Jeonay Morh Di Bandook Wargi,’ which was released in September 2019, sparked outrage due to a reference to the 18th century Sikh warrior Mai Bhago. He was accused of casting a negative light on the Sikh warrior.

Another song, ‘Sanju’, also sparked a controversy in July 2020. The song was released after Sidhu Moose Wala got bail in the AK-47 shooting case. In the song released on social media, he compared himself with actor Sanjay Dutt. A case was also filed against him under the Arms Act after a video clip of him practising at a firing range in Barnala village went viral on social media in May 2020. However, he was later granted bail by a Sangrur court.
