Srinagar, A Kashmiri youth, identified as Javed Ahmed Mattoo, was arrested in India’s capital city, New Delhi, under circumstances that are raising concerns about the treatment of Kashmiri individuals by Indian authorities.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Mattoo was detained today on charges that are being described as fabricated. The police, in justifying his arrest, have labeled him as a worker of a mujahid organization. This tactic, as claimed in the report, is frequently used by Indian authorities to arrest Kashmiri youth both within occupied Jammu and Kashmir and in other parts of India.
The special cell of the Delhi Police has also claimed that Mattoo was carrying a reward of Rs 10 lakh on his head, adding another layer of complexity to the case. The nature of the charges against Mattoo and the circumstances of his arrest are likely to be scrutinized, given the ongoing tensions and issues related to the treatment of Kashmiris in India.
This incident underscores the delicate and often contentious situation involving Kashmiri individuals and the Indian law enforcement authorities. It raises questions about the legal processes and the rationale behind such arrests, which are seen by some as part of a broader pattern of targeting Kashmiri youth.
