Lahore: Across Pakistan, rallies and events were held to observe Youm-e-Istehsal-e-Kashmir, a day dedicated to expressing support for the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination and condemning India’s actions on August 5, 2019. The day commemorates the date when India revoked Jammu and Kashmir’s special status, a move opposed by the international community, Kashmiris, and Pakistanis.
According to Radio Pakistan, events took place throughout Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan to demonstrate solidarity with Kashmiris. In Lahore, a main ceremony at Alhamra Hall included a special photo exhibition and a solidarity walk. Karachi witnessed a significant rally from People’s Chowrangi to Mazar-e-Quaid, led by Senior Sindh Minister Saeed Ghani. Peshawar hosted a rally from the Governor’s House, led by Governor Faisal Karim Kundi and joined by numerous participants. Quetta also hosted multiple events to mark the occasion.
At 9:00 a.m., a one-minute silence was observed nationwide, and Pakistani and Kashmiri flags were raised at key public buildings to symbolize support for the Kashmiri cause.
