Kashmir Resolution Key to Regional Peace, Says Pakistani Official


Islamabad: The Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Kashmir, Rana Muhammad Qasim Noon, emphasized the importance of addressing the Kashmir dispute through a plebiscite as per United Nations Security Council resolutions, stating that this is essential for establishing peace in the region.



According to Kashmir Media Service, Rana Muhammad Qasim Noon made these remarks in a message on Kashmir Right to Self-Determination Day. He highlighted that on January 5, 1949, the United Nations Security Council acknowledged the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination by adopting a resolution that supported their ability to decide their future through a referendum.



He noted that the Kashmiri population has been pursuing self-determination for more than seventy years, with significant sacrifices made by children, women, and elders. He affirmed that the Kashmiri people would continue their efforts until their right to self-determination is achieved.



Rana Muhammad Qasim Noon called on the United Nations to implement the resolutions related to the Kashmiri people’s self-determination, stating that Indian government actions cannot quell their movement for this right. He further described Kashmir as vital to Pakistan, stressing that the Pakistani people have a strong connection with the Kashmiri population and will persistently support their struggle for freedom.



He urged the United Nations to recognize the Kashmiri people’s rightful demand for self-determination in accordance with UN resolutions.
