Karachi’s Development Initiatives Highlighted Amid Leadership Criticism

KARACHI: Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab emphasized the dual leadership dynamics in the city, contrasting the Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) active role in development with other groups he accused of mere rhetoric.

According to a statement by Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Wahab underscored the PPP’s commitment to fulfilling its promises, particularly in the areas of Karachi that have long felt neglected, such as Lyari.

Speaking at the inauguration of the renovated Bakra Piri Pumping Station in Lyari, Wahab detailed the ongoing efforts to address the area’s infrastructure challenges. He highlighted recent and future projects, including the resolution of sewage issues and the introduction of new machinery at the pumping station. The mayor also reiterated PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto’s commitment to the K-3 pipeline project, which aims to improve water supply in the region.

In his remarks, Wahab noted the allocation of approximately 1.25 billion rupees for road construction in Lyari Town. He assured that efforts are underway to combat water theft and enhance water availability from the Hub Dam, targeting an additional 40 million gallons per day by August. The mayor pointed to the establishment of educational and healthcare facilities as evidence of PPP’s dedication to public service.

Wahab addressed concerns about illegal constructions, asserting that the Sindh Building Control Authority, under the local government’s jurisdiction, would be engaged to tackle the issue. He also commented on the financial dealings involving Bahria Town, stressing adherence to legal procedures and the allocation of funds for road infrastructure improvements.

The mayor concluded by affirming the PPP’s ongoing commitment to Karachi’s development under the leadership of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, emphasizing the party’s historical and continued focus on service to the public.
