Karachi, In a significant move to enhance public transportation amid a CNG crisis, Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab announced that 60 Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) buses will be converted to diesel. This transition, piloted successfully with one bus in Lahore, aims to improve travel options for the city’s residents.
According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the decision to switch to diesel follows a successful test case where a bus traveled from Lahore to Karachi, covering a distance of 1200 kilometers, after its fuel system was converted. While bus fares and routes are still under discussion, Mayor Wahab emphasized the importance of a public-private partnership to facilitate this project and get the buses operational.
Mayor Wahab further detailed the ongoing efforts to revamp the city’s transportation system, mentioning the recent arrival of Red and Pink buses as part of the broader initiative by the Sindh government to improve transport facilities. He also highlighted the commitment to utilizing available resources to benefit the citizens, including reopening closed institutions and deploying all usable vehicles, machinery, and equipment.
The mayor’s plans reflect a proactive approach to addressing transportation challenges in Karachi, promising better and more efficient services for its residents soon.
