Karachi, In response to chronic flooding issues, Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab announced that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) will begin constructing a rain drain from the M-9 Motorway to Thaddu Nala. This infrastructure project, supported by the Sindh government, aims to address the waterlogging problems in Saadi Town and surrounding areas.
According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, a tender has been issued to facilitate the construction of the drain. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to manage monsoon water effectively and prevent the annual overflow that disrupts traffic and affects residents’ lives. Mayor Wahab emphasized the urgency of clearing both major and minor drainage channels before the monsoon season and noted the citywide effort to remove obstructions and ensure operational readiness of municipal services.
The collaboration between KMC, Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation, Sindh Solid Waste Management Board, and town municipal corporations is essential to counter the exacerbated effects of climate change and anticipated above-average rainfall, ensuring the city’s preparedness for any unforeseen weather conditions.
