Karachi Solar Projects Yield Significant Savings, Says Sindh Energy Minister

Karachi: Sindh Provincial Energy Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah toured key medical facilities in Karachi, including Diomedical Hospital (Ojha Campus) and Sindh Government Hospital Liaquatabad, to review newly installed solar energy systems.

According to Directorate General Information and PRs – Sindh, the Minister was accompanied by Tariq Ali Shah, MD of the Tharkol Energy Board, and Director of Solar Energy Mahfouz Qazi during his inspections. The newly installed solar system at Dao Medical Center boasts a capacity of 2310 kW, while the system at Sindh Government Hospital Liaquatabad has a capacity of 245.16 kW. The construction of these projects totaled $1.3 million.

Minister Shah highlighted the significant financial benefits of these installations, noting that the Dao Medical Center’s system is expected to save approximately 187.11 million rupees annually over its 25-year operational lifespan. Similarly, the system at Sindh Government Hospital Liaquatabad is projected to save 26.7 million rupees each year. Last year alone, this system generated 594,092.81 units of electricity.

Emphasizing the broader implications of these projects, Shah stated that such initiatives are in line with the vision of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto for public welfare and sustainability. He remarked that solarizing government buildings not only reduces the financial burden on the state but also aligns with ongoing efforts to construct solar parks across the province, aiming to provide cost-effective electricity solutions for its residents.
