KARACHI: In a significant move to address long-standing infrastructure challenges, Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab announced that construction and rehabilitation of 140 roads across the city will commence within the next two to three days. This initiative is part of a broader effort to revitalize Karachi’s infrastructure and improve public services across its seven districts.

According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Mayor Wahab emphasized the resumption of development work in Karachi, highlighting the collaborative efforts of local government representatives from different political parties. The mayor noted that ongoing projects are evidence of the effective functioning of the local government system in Sindh, which is the only province in Pakistan with such a system in place.

During a press conference at the KMC Head Office, Mayor Wahab detailed various development projects underway in the city. These include the construction of new sports complexes, the restoration of historic markets, and the establishment of modern garbage transfer stations. Additionally, significant investments are being made in sanitation and waste management, with the aim of completing several key projects by the end of the year.

The mayor also highlighted the restoration efforts at Spencer Eye Hospital and the upcoming operationalization of Pakistan’s first public-sector Breast Reconstruction Centre. Both initiatives represent a commitment to enhancing healthcare services for Karachi’s residents.

Furthermore, Mayor Wahab outlined plans for several infrastructure development projects, including the construction of the Chakor Nala Expressway and a new flyover on Garden Nishtar Road. These projects are expected to alleviate traffic congestion and improve connectivity across the city.

The mayor concluded by stressing the importance of transparency and coordination among various government bodies and town administrations to ensure the successful completion of development projects. He reiterated the administration’s commitment to providing tangible relief to citizens and continuing Karachi’s journey of development.
