Karachi: Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab has launched a special anti-polio campaign aimed at providing polio booster doses to 2 million children in the city. The campaign, inaugurated at the Lyari International Football Stadium, targets children aged between 4 months and 10 years, utilizing painless jet injectors for vaccine administration. Officials from the Health Department and other institutions were present at the event, where the Mayor administered anti-polio drops to some children.

According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the campaign is part of a broader effort to eradicate polio in Karachi by ensuring vaccine access for every child. Mayor Wahab emphasized the importance of collective efforts in achieving a polio-free city and urged parents to ensure their children receive the vaccine. He reassured the public about the safety of the vaccines, citing endorsements from the World Health Organization and medical experts. The Mayor also noted that he and the Deputy Mayor had received booster doses to demonstrate confidence in the vaccine’s safety.

Health officials informed attendees that hundreds of mobile and fixed teams have been deployed across Karachi to administer the booster doses. These teams will operate in schools, hospitals, and community centers. The campaign aims not only to protect children from the polio virus but also to raise awareness among parents to support the anti-polio initiative further.

Mayor Wahab highlighted the significance of eradicating polio for a healthy future and acknowledged the challenges of reaching every child in a large city like Karachi. He commended the dedication of government, municipal institutions, and healthcare workers in their efforts to protect future generations from disability.
