Karachi: Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab has announced plans to modernize the Karachi Institute of Heart Disease, addressing current shortages of doctors and paramedical staff to enhance medical services for heart patients.
According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Mayor Wahab emphasized the importance of equipping the hospital with contemporary facilities to ensure timely and effective medical assistance during his visit to the Karachi Institute of Heart Disease and the Institute of Health Sciences. The mayor was accompanied by administrative officers, doctors, and other personnel as he inspected various departments, including the emergency ward, and spoke with patients to assess the quality of care they received.
Efforts are underway to provide quality nursing training to youth on full scholarships at the Institute of Health Sciences within the Karachi Institute of Heart Disease. Similar initiatives are planned for Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and Orangi Town. These measures aim to boost the performance standards of staff and regain public trust in these institutions.
The Executive Director of the Institute of Heart Disease, Professor Dr. Rafat, briefed Mayor Wahab on the hospital’s capabilities, stating that all cardiac procedures, including Elective PCI, Primary PCI, Angiography, and the Non-Invasive Department, are currently operational. Recently, the hospital commenced the installation of permanent pacemakers after a 12-hour gap.
The Karachi Institute of Heart Disease is now linked with the National Institute of Heart Disease via satellite, with future plans to further assist heart disease patients. During his visit to the nursing school, Mayor Wahab stressed the need for trainees to stay informed about the latest research and advancements globally and to receive top-notch practical training, enabling them to serve in Karachi’s medical institutions.
