Karachi Deputy Mayor Announces Initiatives for City Development at Local Government Course Opening


Karachi, At the opening ceremony of a five-day certificate course on the local government system, Deputy Mayor Karachi Salman Abdullah Murad outlined a series of initiatives aimed at the development and betterment of the city. Held at the Department of City Institute of Image Management in the KMC head office, the event saw the Deputy Mayor committing to settle the dues of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) employees, enhance the Octroi Zila Tax (OZT) funds, and improve revenue sources and recovery mechanisms within KMC.



According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Murad emphasized the importance of respecting the mandate of all parties in the City Council and extended an invitation to collaborate for Karachi’s development. The Deputy Mayor also announced the impending formation of various committees within the KMC Council and highlighted efforts to enhance the efficiency of KMC’s departments to maximally serve the citizens. He expressed gratitude towards Karachi’s citizens who participated in the recent general elections and voiced hope that all parties, irrespective of their constituencies, would work together for the city’s welfare.



The course, attended by approximately 30 city council members, featured lectures on council ethics and parliamentary speech by former city councilor Shamim Mumtaz Wasi and an overview of council meetings’ rules and regulations by former Director Council, KMC Muhammad Zakir. The program, which runs until March 8, aims to provide city council members with in-depth knowledge and practical exercises on the local government system, thereby enhancing their capacity to contribute to Karachi’s governance and development.
