Jeddah, A significant meeting hosted in Jeddah by the Kashmir Committee, Jammu and Kashmir Overseas Community, and the Consulate General of Pakistan focused on the long-standing Kashmir dispute, advocating for its resolution through peaceful negotiations. The event, honoring Dr. Ghulam Nabi Fai of the World Kashmir Awareness Forum, was attended by numerous Saudi intellectuals and noted personalities.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Dr. Fai expressed gratitude for the support from the Saudi government, which has been vocal about resolving the Kashmir issue peacefully. This stance was reinforced by Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman in a recent discussion with Pakistani Prime Minister Mian Mohammad Shahbaz Sharif. Dr. Fai highlighted the Crown Prince’s relationships with both India and Pakistan as a potential lever for initiating a peace process that includes the United Nations and the people of Jammu and Kashmir, aiming for a just resolution.
The meeting also addressed the severe human rights situation in Kashmir, with Major General (Ret.) Abdullah Bin Saeed Alghamdi condemning the actions of August 5, 2019, when India attempted to change the demographic and political status of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. He described the region as the world’s largest open prison, where over 900,000 Indian troops confine approximately 8 million Kashmiris.
The Consul General Khalid Majeed and other speakers, including Masud Ahmed Puri and Professor Faiz Al-Abideen, reiterated the profound suffering caused by the dispute and the international legal standing of Kashmir’s right to self-determination. They called for increased international and Islamic cooperation to support Kashmiri aspirations.
The event concluded with a prayer for the people affected by conflicts in both Gaza and Kashmir, underscoring the global dimension of regional disputes and the communal desire for resolution.
