Shinkiari: A new link road project, funded by the Government of Japan, was inaugurated in the village of Jhandwal, Shinkiari, District Mansehra, with the aim of improving transportation and access to essential services for local residents. His Excellency, Mr. Akamatsu Shuichi, Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan, led the opening ceremony for the project on April 7, 2025.

The initiative, implemented by the Saibaan Development Organization, a non-governmental entity, received financial assistance of $56,418 under Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Program. The project entailed the paving of a 3,800-foot link road, along with the construction of retaining walls and culverts to support the infrastructure.

The inauguration was attended by several notable figures, including NGO board members, federal and local government officials, and community leaders. Among them was Mr. Sardar Shah Jahan Yousaf, Parliamentary Leader Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) KP, who acknowledged the project’s significance for the local community.

Saibaan Development Organization, known for its more than two decades of experience in rural development, has a history of collaborating with government bodies and international donors. This project aims to alleviate transportation challenges for the residents of Jhandwal, enhancing the quality of life by providing a secure route to educational institutions for 330 children and improving access to healthcare and markets for 2,700 individuals.

At the ceremony, Ambassador Akamatsu highlighted the broader implications of the road project, noting its potential to foster community connections and stimulate regional growth. He reaffirmed Japan’s dedication to aiding Pakistan in enhancing living conditions and expressed hope that the endeavor would deepen the bilateral friendship between the two nations.
