Hong Kong: Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan met with the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, John Lee Ka-Chiu, to reaffirm their commitment to enhancing trade, economic cooperation, and people-to-people linkages between Pakistan and Hong Kong.

According to Press Information Department, the meeting was attended by Algernon Yau, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of HKSAR, and Riaz Ahmed Sheikh, Pakistan’s Consul General in Hong Kong. The Chief Executive praised Minister Khan’s address at the Belt and Road Summit, highlighting the emphasis on international cooperation and shared economic prosperity.

Chief Executive Lee expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s contributions to regional peace and stability, noting its importance for global economic growth. He underscored the strong relationship between Pakistan and China and its positive impact on the Belt and Road Initiative, while also acknowledging the efforts of the Pakistani Consulate in Hong Kong in fostering closer ties.

Minister Khan expressed appreciation for Hong Kong’s hospitality and reiterated Pakistan’s dedication to its relationship with China, emphasizing the importance of expanding trade and economic partnerships with Hong Kong. He acknowledged the contributions of the Pakistani diaspora in Hong Kong, particularly through remittances and strong linkages.

The Commerce Minister advocated for enhanced cooperation in trade services, aviation, finance, and business-to-business connectivity. He encouraged Hong Kong to consider resuming Cathay Pacific flights to Pakistan, suggesting that improved air connectivity could bolster business and tourism exchanges. Both parties agreed to explore new areas of mutual economic interest and Minister Khan invited Chief Executive Lee to visit Pakistan.

In a separate meeting with Secretary Yau, discussions focused on expanding bilateral trade and economic engagement, with proposals for deeper institutional collaboration and improved aviation connectivity. The meetings highlighted Pakistan’s efforts to translate its longstanding relationships with China and Hong Kong into stronger commercial linkages and new trade opportunities.
