ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Traffic Police has issued a diversion plan to manage traffic amid ongoing construction work in the city. The plan, which aims to facilitate citizens by providing alternative routes, will be in effect from March 31, 2026, until the project is completed.
According to Islamabad Capital Police, traffic on Ataturk Avenue will be redirected from Express Chowk to Ayub Chowk (Agha Khan Road) as the avenue will remain closed. Commuters traveling to or from the Marriott Hotel via Jinnah Avenue are advised to take routes through China Chowk, Press Club Road, Super Market, and Agha Khan Road.
Individuals traveling from Khayaban-e-Suharwardy and Embassy Road should use Shaheed-e-Millat Road, China Chowk Underpass, Press Club Road, and Agha Khan Road for accessing the Marriott Hotel. For journeys between Srinagar Highway and the Secretariat, the suggested routes include Serena Chowk, Globe Chowk, and Secretariat Chowk. Commuters from 7th Avenue can reach the Secretariat using Margalla Road and Constitution Avenue. Residents in Sector F-6 are recommended to use 7th Avenue and Margalla Road.
Chief Traffic Officer Islamabad, Muhammad Sarfraz Virk, assured that traffic police officers will be stationed at road closure points to assist citizens and ensure the effectiveness of the alternate routes. He encouraged residents to follow the suggested routes and cooperate with traffic personnel during the construction period. Additionally, updates will be provided via FM Radio 92.4 and various social media channels to keep the public informed.
