ISLAMABAD: In a bid to curb environmental pollution and enhance public safety, the Islamabad Traffic Police have penalized over 1,600 public vehicles emitting smoke and lacking fitness certificates this year, according to a recent announcement from the Islamabad Capital Police.
Under the directives of Chief Traffic Officer Syed Zeeshan Haider, the police have intensified their efforts to address the issue of vehicular pollution. As part of a special campaign, legal measures have been enforced against 1,664 vehicles that fail to meet environmental and safety standards.
The campaign involves specific instructions issued to all zonal Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) and the reinforcement of special squads. These teams are strategically stationed at major locations and highways throughout the city and are tasked with taking indiscriminate legal action against violators.
Chief Traffic Officer Haider emphasized the health hazards posed by smoke-emitting vehicles and the inconvenience they cause to the public. He reaffirmed that eliminating such pollution sources remains a top priority for the traffic police.
Haider also highlighted the dangers posed by public service vehicles without valid fitness certificates, noting their potential to endanger lives and disrupt traffic flow. He urged citizens to collaborate with the police in their efforts to reduce environmental pollution.
Residents are encouraged to report any emergencies or violations by contacting the Pucar-15 helpline.
