ISLAMABAD: In a concerted effort to curb crime in the federal capital, Islamabad Police have apprehended 506 individuals during extensive operations targeting criminal elements, illegal weapon holders, and drug dealers. The crackdown, which took place in the first ten days of May 2026, was initiated under the directives of Inspector General of Police Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi.

According to Islamabad Capital Police, the operations led to the arrest of 125 individuals for illegal weapon possession and 113 for drug trafficking. The police recovered substantial quantities of drugs and firearms, including 20 kilograms of hashish, over 13 kilograms of heroin, 14 kilograms of crystal meth, and 674 bottles of liquor. In addition, the police seized 105 pistols, nine rifles, seven Kalashnikovs, 11 daggers, and a significant amount of ammunition.

Deputy Inspector General of Islamabad Police Muhammad Jawad Tariq indicated that the actions were part of broader efforts to ensure public safety and protect citizens’ lives and property. The operations also targeted 268 habitual offenders and included 107 combing and search operations in various areas of Islamabad.

These search operations involved the scrutiny of suspicious individuals, tenants, hotels, and hostels, aiming to prevent criminal activities promptly. Furthermore, the police conducted over 87 open courts to address and resolve citizens’ complaints, emphasizing public engagement and liaison.

DIG Tariq emphasized the department’s commitment to maintaining law and order and eradicating crime, asserting a zero-tolerance policy against lawbreakers and a continued effort to uphold peace and security in Islamabad.
