Islamabad: Islamabad Police, under the direction of Inspector General of Police Captain (Retd.) Muhammad Sohail Chaudhry, has intensified efforts against criminal elements, resulting in the arrest of 217 suspects in the federal capital over the past week. The initiative included extensive search and combing operations aimed at maintaining peace and security.

According to Islamabad Capital Police, the crackdown led to the apprehension of 145 court absconders, proclaimed offenders, and previously recorded criminals, in addition to 72 individuals involved in drug trafficking and illegal weapons possession. Police operations resulted in the recovery of significant quantities of drugs and weapons, including 4,192 grams of ice, 5,169 grams of hashish, 1,531 grams of heroin, 10 liquor bottles, and various firearms and ammunition. Legal proceedings have been initiated, and investigations are ongoing.

The operations, conducted under the supervision of zonal SPs, involved checking 2,576 individuals, 986 residences, 227 shops, 93 hotels, 1,216 motorcycles, and 488 vehicles. As part of the verification process, 137 suspicious persons, 142 motorcycles, and two vehicles were taken to police stations for further examination.

Deputy Inspector General Islamabad Ali Waseem emphasized the police’s commitment to safeguarding citizens’ lives and property while eliminating crime. He instructed officers to enhance search operations and adhere to legal protocols, urging public cooperation in reporting suspicious activities to bolster security.
