Islamabad Hosts “Sprint to End TB” Event in Unison for World TB Day 2024


Islamabad, In an inspiring display of unity and commitment to public health, the Dopasi Foundation, alongside the Common Management Unit for AIDS, TB, and Malaria of the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination, partnered with “Islamabad Run with Us” to successfully conduct the “Sprint to End TB” event on World TB Day, March 24, 2024. This pivotal event aimed at rallying community support and raising awareness to combat tuberculosis (TB), aligns with global efforts following the UN High-Level Meeting 2023 on TB and the Sustainable Development Goals for 2030. The run, starting from Chand Tara Chowk and ending at the Gun and Country Club, symbolized a collective stride towards eliminating TB, emphasizing the power of community involvement in overcoming health challenges.



According to Press Information Department, the event was marked by the participation of distinguished guests such as Secretary Health Dr. Iftikhar Shalwani, National Coordinator Dr. Razia Fatima, and other key figures who underscored the importance of collaborative efforts in the fight against TB. Secretary Shalwani’s comments during the event highlighted TB awareness as a reflection of societal commitment to supporting vulnerable populations, asserting that through increased awareness and resource mobilization, the goal of ending TB is within reach.



The day concluded with a gathering at the Gun and Country Club for a closing ceremony and Iftar, celebrating the dedication of participants and further discussing strategies to eradicate TB. This event not only served as a reminder of the ongoing battle against TB but also as a catalyst for continued action and advocacy beyond World TB Day, underscoring a month-long commitment to TB awareness in Pakistan. Dr. Razia Fatima expressed gratitude for the collective efforts and emphasized the importance of sustained awareness and action to accelerate progress towards eradicating TB.
