Indian Police Re-Arrest Jama’at-e-Islami Leader in Pulwama, IIOJK

Srinagar, In a repeated move by Indian authorities, Jama’at-e-Islami (JeI) spokesperson Advocate Zahid Ali was re-arrested in Pulwama district of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). This event follows closely after his release on bail from Kathua Jail, Jammu, where he had been detained for over three years.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Zahid Ali, who serves as the Political Bureau Head and Chief Spokesperson of Jama’at-e-Islami in the occupied region, was taken from his residence at Nehama by police and Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) and moved to an undisclosed location for interrogation. His previous arrest on March 22, 2019, occurred just before the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs banned the Jama’at, accusing it of supporting the Kashmiri right to self-determination a claim leading to his 2020 arrest under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA).

The re-arrest comes despite Ali’s recent statements post-release, where he affirmed that his party does not support the Indian parliamentary election process in IIOJK. This stance potentially influenced the decision for his re-arrest, underscoring the continued suppression of political voices in the region.
