According to Kashmir Media Service, the operation was a collaborative effort between the Indian army and police, concentrating on the Kori and adjacent areas. The action was reportedly triggered by reports of suspicious activities detected within the locality.

Officials from the Indian army have identified the area as the purported residence of Jahangir Saroori, recognized as the most enduring commander affiliated with the Hizbul Mujahideen militant group.
