Dhaka: In a reported incident of cross-border violence, Indian Border Security Force (BSF) personnel are alleged to have killed a Bangladeshi man in the Lalmonirhat district. The youth, identified as Hasibul Alam, 24, was reportedly taken by force across the border before being shot.
The incident, as reported by Kashmir Media Service, took place at the Madhya Singimari border under the Hatibandha upazila in Lalmonirhat. Eyewitnesses claim that Alam and several others were cutting grass on Bangladeshi territory when Indian BSF troops from the Nagar Singimari camp in Shitalkuchi, India, crossed the border and abducted him.
According to reports, Alam was shot in the eyes while the BSF troops attempted to place him into a vehicle. He was subsequently taken to a hospital in Cooch Behar, West Bengal, where he died from his injuries.
Statistics from the rights organization Ain o Salish Kendra indicate that the Indian BSF killed at least 25 Bangladeshis in 2024, with the number reaching 28 in 2023. The incident has further strained relations between the two countries, highlighting ongoing concerns about border security and the use of force.
