IMF Chief Commends Pakistan on Economic Reforms Progress

WASHINGTON: IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva has commended Pakistan’s progress on its economic reforms, highlighting the significant strides made in maintaining macroeconomic stability and enhancing investor confidence. Her remarks were made during a meeting with Pakistan’s Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb at the IMF-World Bank Spring Meetings.

According to Radio Pakistan, Georgieva recognized the strong implementation of Pakistan’s reform program as a key factor in its economic trajectory. The discussions underscored the importance of continued efforts in economic restructuring to sustain and build upon these gains.

Finance Minister Aurangzeb, during his visit to Washington, also engaged with senior leaders of Franklin Templeton. The meetings centered on Pakistan’s ongoing privatization initiatives, including the outsourcing of major airports and the privatization of electricity distribution companies. Aurangzeb provided updates on the government’s strategies aimed at enhancing efficiency and attracting investment in these sectors.
