Islamabad: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has approved its budget estimates for the fiscal year 2026-27, following deliberations on financial, administrative, and policy matters in a meeting held at the HEC Secretariat on Monday. The meeting, chaired by Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar, addressed budget allocations, including federal grants for public universities and development funding under the Public Sector Development Programme.

According to Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, the approved budget includes provisions for the HEC Secretariat and introduces measures aimed at enhancing institutional governance and organizational efficiency. The Commission emphasized the role of prudent financial management and sustained public investment in maintaining and advancing the quality of education, research, and innovation across the nation’s universities. Various academic and regulatory issues were also discussed, with decisions made in line with the meeting’s agenda.

The session was attended by key figures such as Executive Director HEC Dr. Zia Ul Haq and representatives from various governmental bodies and educational committees, highlighting the collaborative approach toward addressing the challenges and opportunities within Pakistan’s higher education sector.
