Islamabad: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has launched a Mentoring Program for Universities (MPU) aimed at training leadership and faculty across higher education institutions nationwide. This initiative seeks to enhance professional development and leadership capacity within both public and private sector universities.

According to Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, the program, initiated through the National Academy of Higher Education (NAHE), expands upon the Women Empowerment and Mentoring Program launched in November 2024 for women universities. The new initiative is designed to foster mentorship, collaboration, and knowledge sharing within the higher education sector.

The launch ceremony was attended by Chairman HEC Engr. Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar (S.I) and senior management, with Vice Chancellors of universities participating virtually. Dr. Akhtar emphasized the importance of mentoring in institutional development, highlighting the expertise available within Pakistan’s academic community.

Managing Director NAHE Dr. Noor Amna Malik discussed the program’s background and the success of the previous women-focused initiative, which produced 890 mentors and mentees. Dr. Malik stated that the MPU will address interpersonal and psychological barriers, provide guidance, and support emerging leaders in the sector.

Dr. Uzma Quraishi, Vice Chancellor of Lahore College for Women University, shared insights on the impact of the earlier program, noting its role in establishing the need for mentorship in professional growth. She highlighted the program’s potential to transform the academic ecosystem by empowering educators and learners.
