ISLAMABAD: In a recent meeting held at the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Secretariat, officials reviewed the implementation and monitoring of the HEC Policy on Drug and Tobacco Abuse in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) within the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT). The session focused on enhancing inter-agency coordination to foster a drug-free educational environment.

According to Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, the meeting was chaired by Executive Director Dr. Zia Ul Haq and attended by Director General of Research & Analysis Activities, Engr. Saleemullah Sahoo, along with other HEC officials and representatives from ICT Police. Discussions centered on the importance of collaborative efforts between HEC, law enforcement, and educational institutions to combat drug and tobacco abuse among students.

During the meeting, the Director General briefed attendees on the HEC Policy’s key provisions and ongoing initiatives for its effective implementation and monitoring. The agenda included deliberations on inter-agency coordination and the development of monitoring mechanisms involving HEC and ICT Police. Participants examined strategies for regular oversight of HEIs, identifying policy implementation gaps, and planning coordinated follow-up actions.

The assembly concluded with a pledge to strengthen coordination, monitoring, and preventive measures to ensure the effective execution of the HEC Policy on Drug and Tobacco Abuse in HEIs within the ICT region.
