Islamabad: The National Academy of Higher Education, part of the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, has successfully concluded a four-day training program aimed at equipping faculty members with artificial intelligence skills. The program, “AI Literacy for Educators: Building AI-Ready Institutions,” was targeted at lecturers and assistant professors in public sector higher education institutions.

According to Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, the training drew 32 faculty members from Islamabad and Rawalpindi for in-person sessions at the HEC Smart Classroom, while over 300 participants joined remotely via Smart Classrooms and Video Conference Rooms. The initiative sought to enhance educators’ abilities to integrate AI in teaching, research, and academic practices, combining theoretical and practical learning experiences.

The program featured technology-enabled delivery through the HEC Smart Classroom network, allowing for interactive real-time participation, despite geographical distances. Managing Director NAHE, Dr. Noor Amna Malik, addressed the closing ceremony, emphasizing the transformative role of AI in education and the necessity for institutions to prepare for an AI-enabled environment. Dr. Malik stressed the need for faculty to develop a critical understanding of AI systems, uphold academic integrity, and ensure ethical use of AI technologies.

Participants gained hands-on experience in applying AI to various academic processes, including curriculum design, academic writing, and research support. They also explored contemporary AI tools and learned principles of effective human-AI interaction. The training underscored the importance of building AI-ready institutions through capable faculty, institutional preparedness, and continuous professional development.
