Islamabad: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has celebrated the recognition of 118 researchers who have been named among the world’s top two percent of scientists. This initiative underscores the HEC’s commitment to encouraging research with a focus on the socio-economic development of the country. The event, attended by senior academic figures, also highlighted plans to hold similar ceremonies in other provinces and a research exhibition showcasing the work of these distinguished individuals.
According to Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, the ceremony was led by Chairman HEC, Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar, who presented certificates to the honored researchers. Among the attendees were Executive Director HEC, Dr. Zia ul Haq, who is also recognized globally, and Dr. Engr. Muhammad Ali Nasir, Advisor for HEC Research and Innovation Division. Dr. Akhtar congratulated the researchers and emphasized the essential role of universities in generating and transforming knowledge for national development. He urged researchers to align their work with industrial needs and contribute to Pakistan’s socio-economic progress.
Dr. Zia ul Haq, in his remarks, highlighted the significance of achieving a spot among the world’s top scientists, reflecting the dedication of Pakistani researchers and the support from academic institutions. He reiterated HEC’s commitment to facilitating impactful research and encouraged recognized scientists to share their expertise within the research community.
Dr. Muhammad Ali Nasir discussed HEC’s research and innovation efforts, including programs like the National Research Programme for Universities and the Technology Development Fund, aimed at fostering research capacity and collaboration. He emphasized the importance of translating research into practical solutions and innovation.
Globally recognized scholars also shared their views, stressing the value of scientific integrity and interdisciplinary cooperation to address national challenges. They acknowledged the potential of Pakistani researchers to contribute significantly to both national and global scientific discussions.
