ISLAMABAD: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan recently hosted a delegation from the School of Biomedical Engineering at Wuhan Textile University (WTU), China, to discuss opportunities for enhanced cooperation in higher education, research, and innovation.

According to Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, the meeting was chaired by Dr. Zia Ul Haq, Executive Director of HEC, and included senior HEC officers, as well as representatives from the National University of Technology (NUTECH), Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF), Ministry of Science and Technology, and other stakeholders. The Executive Director reaffirmed HEC’s commitment to international partnerships that promote academic excellence and sustainable knowledge exchange.

The WTU delegation provided an overview of the university’s academic expertise, particularly in textile and fibre technology, sensor technology, and genetic engineering. They highlighted ongoing collaborations with NUTECH and the Institute of Space Technology (IST) and expressed interest in expanding links with additional Pakistani universities.

Discussions focused on expanding academic cooperation through joint research, faculty and student mobility, and academic collaboration at the undergraduate level. The Chinese delegation proposed promoting Chinese language programmes in Pakistani universities to aid students seeking education in China.

The delegation expressed willingness to support HEC under the Belt and Road Initiative through academic conferences and curriculum development. Both parties agreed to identify Pakistani universities for potential partnerships with WTU and examine faculty exchange opportunities.

The meeting concluded with plans to promote Chinese language programmes in collaboration with the National University of Modern Languages (NUML) and explore technical training for university technicians, reinforcing academic and research ties between Pakistan and China.
