Islamabad: Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, led a high-level meeting of the Wheat Board to evaluate the wheat availability, distribution strategy, and provincial needs. The gathering included key officials from the Ministry of National Food Security and Research, provincial representatives, and members of the Pakistan Flour Mills Association.

According to Press Information Department, the meeting revealed that the collective wheat demand by provinces surpassed the current stocks held by the Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation (passco). Consequently, the government is considering importing approximately one million tonnes of wheat. This import aims to ensure a continuous wheat supply and uphold national food security, based on the requirements submitted by the provinces.

Minister Hussain assured that all provinces would be consulted during the import process, especially concerning the quality specifications of the wheat. He stressed that the distribution of imported wheat would align with each province’s specific needs, promoting transparency and equitable allocation.

The Minister also reiterated the government’s commitment to collaborating with federating units to stabilize wheat supply, protect consumer interests, and guarantee the timely availability of wheat nationwide. He instructed relevant authorities to efficiently finalize all necessary arrangements in coordination with the provinces.
