Islamabad: The International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists was observed on Monday, drawing attention to the persistent issue of unsolved crimes against media professionals and emphasizing the importance of maintaining freedom of speech. This year’s theme, “Threats Evolve. Impunity Endures,” underscores the ongoing challenges faced by journalists worldwide.
According to Radio Pakistan, UNESCO reports that between 2006 and 2025, over 1,600 journalists have been killed globally. Disturbingly, nearly six out of every seven cases remain unresolved in the judicial system. The day serves as a reminder of the risks journalists encounter and the need for concerted efforts to address and resolve these cases effectively.
