Tashkent: Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani has reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to global cooperation and legislative action promoting social equity during his address at the 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Tashkent.
In his speech at the general debate titled “Parliamentary Action for Social Development and Justice,” Gillani emphasized the need for renewed global dedication to social development through parliamentary collaboration. He commended the Inter-Parliamentary Union for its role in advancing parliamentary diplomacy and global governance.
Gillani highlighted Pakistan’s efforts, including legislative and policy reforms aimed at empowering marginalized communities and expanding access to healthcare and education. He cited successful initiatives like the Benazir Income Support Programme and universal healthcare policies as examples of Pakistan’s commitment to social equity and justice.
The Chairman Senate urged international parliaments to work together to promote fairness, redefine growth, and ensure development benefits all.
In a separate meeting on the sidelines of the assembly, Gillani met with Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. The discussions focused on the increasing political and institutional engagements between Pakistan and Uzbekistan, including regular bilateral political consultations and joint ministerial commissions, along with joint business forums.
